Chris Ryan - Film Composer / Orchestrator / Arranger

Picture
Chris Ryan is a composer and filmmaker from Long Island, New York with a passion for musical storytelling. At the awkward age of seventeen, he won a small-town male beauty pageant by playing the E.T. Flying Theme on piano. Needless to say, he’s been working in film music ever since.

A collaborator at heart, Chris's earliest aspirations were to direct. However, after discovering the score to the hit ABC drama LOST when he was a freshman in high school, Chris began to gravitate towards film scoring. Four years later and after conducting the premiere of his first symphonic work, he knew he had found his calling.

A graduate of the University of Miami with majors in film and theatre production, Chris quickly found his niche in the storytelling world by combining a passion for compelling narratives with a knack for translating emotions into music. Since breaking into scoring four years ago, his music has transported viewers from the foothills of China to the darkest corners of the human mind; from the American Wild West to the farthest reaches of space. His work has premiered in cities and countries throughout the world including Cannes, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami, Philadelphia, Mexico, Canada and China.

In 2012, Chris’s journey came full circle when he collaborated with Academy Award winning composer Michael Giacchino (Up, Star Trek, Super 8) on a solo piano album of the music from LOST, serving as performer and arranger of the very themes that inspired him to become a film composer in the first place. Currently, Chris spends his time working with like-minded collaborators on projects that inspire him. But at the end of the day, he just wants to help tell stories that can affect people in the same way that they have affected him.
